PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has come out of nowhere to become one of the most popular video games of the recent PC gaming era, and when you dive into this massive multiplayer survival game you’re going to understand why right out of the gate.

For a video game that is only just barely a few months old, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been able to establish a gaming community that is millions of members deep – even though the game itself hasn’t actually been completely finished or polished off by the developer! Selling 2 million copies in just five weeks during the “Early Access” of the videogame on incredibly popular distribution network Steam, this game has brought in more than $60 million in its first month of availability – and many believe that by the end of the year that number will grow to nearly $300 million or more.

So what makes PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds so exciting, separating itself from the rest of the pack of videogames available on the market today?

An innovative new approach to the FPS arena

As far as the fundamentals of the Battlegrounds game is concerned, you’re looking at a pretty simple and straightforward FPS title that combines popular “shoot them up” mechanics with survival themes that are tough to find anywhere outside of really hard-core niche titles that haven’t had any of the traction that PUBG has.

The game starts off in a very simple and straightforward manner.

100 players are picked at random from the “lobby”, loaded into a digital cargo plane, and then flown out into the ocean until they hover above a large island. Players then have the opportunity to choose when and where they jump out of the airplane (and where they land), and then it’s up to them to collect as many weapons, as much ammunition, and all the armor that they can find in abandoned houses and structures located throughout the island.

From the moment that they touchdown, a countdown clock in the top right-hand section of the screen begins to lose time, and the only objective – the ONLY objective – that players have in PUBG is to try and stay alive until that countdown clock hits zero. Anyone left standing at the end of the time limit is going to be rewarded with a tremendous amount of in game currency, special bonuses, and other reward items and loot not available to the losers.
